I have 3mbps verizon dsl. Needless to say, I hate it. I already looked into some form of upgrade and verizon has left me with no fios. I am looking elsewhere which turns me to Comcast. 12mbps Cable. Anybody have any suggestions / rants against comcast / guidance for my young and lost soul?

Comcast limits you to 250 GBs a month traffic, no matter what speed you have. Other then that Cable > DSL. Just make sure you get a DOCSIS 3.x firmware modem.

Comcast service is great. Very fast speeds.
Comcast customer support/treatment is horrible. They're also expensive as hell and will ding you for every charge they can. For ex., it took me an hour on the phone and 3 separate calls to get an incorrect charge reversed.

Comcast has a sub-company called MediaCom that literally rules the cable interwebz in my old college town. They are HORRIBLE and they know they can be since they are the only choice for the town. panzer is correct in saying the tech support and price are your worst enemy...that keeps coming back.
It may be your only choice, be wary of it!

Comcast will try to wring every penny out of you, but their internet is a decentt speed, and pretty reliable. When I installed a modem for my grandma, they charged me 1.50 to "activate" my modem after adding it to the account. Now I work for a different company, but I know they use he same system that we do, and litterally all they had to do was click a button to send a signal. And those signals are NOT expensive. We send them out like candy. Just be careful of what they are trying to charge you is all. I'd rather have cable internet than DSL any day, but I may be biased.

I have Mediacom now and it's worse than when I had Comcast when I lived in Chicago.

Ew 250gb cap makes me sad face :(
The sad thing is that the bandwidth cap dose not scale with your Comcast plan's download speed. i.e. 1Mbps 24/7 is more then 250 GB http://security.comc...f02a9#excessive a month and I'm not counting uploads. See the chart below for more.
Estimated monthly download GBs based on download speeds:
1Mbps (316 GB per month if used 24/7).
10Mbps used 24/7 can transfer 3,164 GB per month or 105.4GB per day.
100Mbps can transfer 31,640 GB per month or that is roughly around 1,054GB per day.

DONT GO FOR THE SATELLITE IT SUCKS SO BAD
...I love Verizon for caring enough to get me a different internet.
It's even 10 bucks cheaper for much better speeds (100kBps -> 3mBps).
But I think I'd jump at FiOS.

what is your problem with the DSL?
Ridiculously slow for me. My connection gets bogged down quite a bit when my whole family is around. Drives me insane not being able to stream a simple video. BTW i sometimes have 10+ computers running on it.
EDIT: I was talking to a sales associate for comcast and he cut the installation fee to half price:0
